Motorcycle handlebar switches are designed to provide you with a convenient way of operating all of the electrical equipment of your machine, including the starter, ignition, headlight modes, exterior and emergency lights, computer option selectors, brake pressure switch, turn signals, horn, and other accessories. From what I understand, the only real fix is having them anodized again. Then wipe off the excess with a damp cloth. Remember, this is all done while the outer switch is dangling from its wires, having been unscrewed from the bar switch holder! Pick a paint you like and carefully mask off the parts that you don't want paint on. What type of finish was used on the control bodies and on the handlebars? The final step of handlebar switch restoration is to test the function of all of the switches using either the ohmmeter or diode tester function of your multimeter. It almost feels rubberized on the left side where the master cylinder didn't leak. In addition, one of our brand new outer cases was fitted, along with a new dial face. The process fades over the years. The silver epoxy doesn't need heat to make a solid connection and could be used both to insert new wires and rebuild old,worn contacts. Once I pulled the e-clip off of it, the engine stop switch and its wiring could be removed through the top of the housing. Look forward to working with you again soon.

The switches are made with metal contacts embedded in a plastic housing. I've heard people talk about Mothers Back to Black and also a product called Black Magic. If you want something that will last longer than you will be paying about ten times the amount for one rattle can. You know they've got to be pretty small. I painted my controls on my 72 honda just with rattle can black paint.
Incidentally, it's supposed to be 78F today and I'm going riding again. Then I painted everything black. Your safety on the road might be compromised if you cannot communicate your intentions to other drivers by switching on turn signals, or if your brake light pressure switch is out of order. Without a properly operating ignition switch, you cannot even start your engine. I also describe a specialty product conductive silver epoxy that may be a way to rebuild and restore an old,worn thumb switch back to normal function.
Hi Peter, Just I quick note to thank you for your excellent work on my clocks and switch gear. My switches work great; so I really don't want to change them out. In this video headlight switch assembly that appears to be from 1970s or 80s model, there were two switches. Try finding the one that is right for you by choosing the price range, brand, or specifications that meet your needs. I use my vapor blasting machine because no other method I know can restore a factory new appearance to old aluminum the way vapor blasting can.
I am amazed at how good they look. Regards Jim I saw a Jota at Box Hill recently and his clocks had been done by you. Put a large old white bed sheet around the area, to capture the flying clip. When you notice the malfunction of some of the switches on your handlebars, or if they start to work inconsistently, it is time to find a suitable replacement and fix the problem as soon as possible. Switches establish contact between ends of wires by conductive metal plate, mounted on non-conductive moving pieces. You should also look at and remember how any tape or sleeves are applied to the wires in the housing to protect them from chafing.
